Where is Kaitiaki Lodge located?

Kaitiaki Lodge is in Onetangi on Waiheke Island (Auckland region), set in native bushland with easy access to beaches, wineries and island transport.

What does “Kaitiaki” mean?

“Kaitiaki” means guardianship in Māori. It reflects the lodge’s ethos of caring for the land and native wildlife throughout the property.

How many bedrooms and guests can the lodge accommodate?

The lodge has 5 bedrooms and can sleep up to 10 guests. Four bedrooms can be configured as king or twin to suit your party.

What are the main amenities?

Highlights include a 9 m heated pool, cedar hot tub, a state-of-the-art kitchen with Fisher & Paykel gear, Sonos sound system, underfloor heating in certain suites, laundry, individual climate control, robes, and large entertaining deck.

Is the property private and what is the setting?

Yes. The lodge is set on approximately 10 acres of native Waiheke bush, includes a private nature walk, and provides views of native forest and ocean. It is designed to feel secluded yet is a short drive from local beaches, attractions and island amenities.

Getting there

How do I get to Kaitiaki Lodge from Auckland?

Most guests take the ferry from Auckland to Waiheke Island. The lodge is about 40 minutes by ferry plus a short drive or arranged transfer once on the island.

Which ferry services go to Waiheke Island?

Fullers360 operates regular passenger ferries from downtown Auckland to Matiatia Wharf on Waiheke Island. Sealink provides car ferries from Half Moon Bay or Wynyard Quarter.

Can I bring a car to the island?

Yes. You can book a car ferry through Sealink if you prefer to drive your own vehicle. Alternatively, rental cars and taxis are available on the island.

How far is the lodge from Matiatia Wharf?

The lodge is around a 25-minute drive from the ferry terminal at Matiatia Wharf, depending on traffic.

Is parking available at the lodge?

Yes. On-site parking is available for guests. Confirm the number of spaces needed when booking.

You can enjoy the lodge’s heated pool, cedar hot tub, private nature walk through native bush, large indoor & outdoor living areas and lounging on expansive decks. Ideal for relaxing, socialising, or small group retreats.

Nearby attractions include the vineyards (such as Tantalus, Stony Ridge, Man’o’War, Mudbrick, Casita Miro and Te Motu), Onetangi Beach (just a few minutes away), local restaurants (Three Seven Two, Ki Māha, Oyster Inn), EcoZip adventures, and Whakanewha Regional Park.

Can the lodge arrange guided activities, transfers or a private chef?

Yes. The lodge team can organise private chefs, grocery delivery, guided wine or nature tours, airport/ferry/helicopter transfers, massages, and other custom services. These are available upon request when booking.

Can we host corporate retreats, meetings or celebrations?

Yes. The lodge supports corporate retreats, small events and special gatherings. Packages can include the lodge hire, catering, facilitation, and off-site team-building or activity plans. Capacity and rates depend on group size and services selected.

Is the lodge open year-round? What about seasonal planning?

Yes. The lodge operates throughout the year. Rates, minimum nights, and availability of activities change with seasons. Summers are popular for outdoor amenities; winters emphasize cozy indoor comforts like underfloor heating and fireplaces..
